A Peanut alternative without a subscription: meeting parents locally

Compare no-subscription ways to meet parents: free park meetups, library activities, local groups and Ciruna’s one-time membership.

A place to start

If you want parent friendships without another subscription, start with a free public walk, a library activity or an active neighbourhood group. An app is optional. Compare whether people nearby actually meet, not just the number of profiles. No subscription does not always mean completely free: check membership, activity and travel costs separately.

Choose the kind of connection you want

An alternative does not need to copy every feature of Peanut. If you want someone to walk with this week, a small nearby group may be more useful than a large feed. If you want online conversation, a moderated parent group may suit you better. Before paying for any service, check which useful actions are free, which need payment and whether there are active parents within a journey you can regularly manage. Do not assume every Peanut feature requires a subscription; check its current offering directly.

Try free meetups before paid activities

Suggest a short playground visit or buggy walk with no entry fee, and bring a drink from home rather than making a café purchase part of joining. Check the library and municipal activity listings for free baby sessions or story times; not every session is free or open without booking. Ask about accessibility, toilets and age guidance. A ticketed class can be enjoyable, but you do not need to buy a course to begin meeting parents.

Find a local group without needing Facebook

Look at community-centre notices, library calendars and local family organisations. Search your town name with ‘parent group’, ‘baby walk’ or ‘family activities’, using the local language if possible. Ask an organiser whether newcomers can join and when the group last met. WhatsApp, Signal or Facebook groups can help if available, but access is not essential. Check moderation and privacy: a closed group is not permission to publish another family's details.

Compare the real cost, then make a repeatable plan

Separate recurring subscriptions from one-time membership fees, admission, transport and optional food. Ciruna has no recurring subscription: the first 20 parents in each town get free lifetime access, and later members pay €15 once. Browsing and joining public meetups requires membership; a free account alone is not full access. Availability and activity vary by area. Whatever option you choose, propose a public place, a short time slot and a possible second visit. Staying local makes repeating it easier.

An invitation you can adapt

“Anyone up for a free playground visit on Thursday at 10? I’ll bring my own coffee. No tickets or purchases needed, just some company while we watch our children. If it works for us, we could do it again next week.”

Meeting parents with Ciruna

Ciruna is one option for taking a local invitation offline, not a promise of instant friends. Members can host and join public meetups without an ID check. Verification is free and optional; it adds a green badge and access to names and children's age bands. Check availability in your area and the current pricing before joining. Keep first meetings public and each adult responsible for their own child.
